1How do we cure cancer? Can we improve Alzheimer's disease diagnosis? Are there tools to improve crop yield in the face of climate change?
Those are only some of the questions we pursue at VIB, a non-profit institute with a focus on groundbreaking research in the life sciences. We work in close partnership with the five universities in Flanders – Ghent University, KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Hasselt University.
Our researchers tackle some of the biggest questions in the life sciences, from cancer treatments to a better understanding of brain diseases and breeding climate-resilient crops. And… we want you. VIB values diversity in all of its forms and we need people from all backgrounds and ways of life to help build a thriving scientific environment.
VIB is always on the lookout for people who can help us push science forward. This does not only include traditional scientific profiles. We need programmers, IT magicians, technology connoisseurs, business developers, and creative all-rounders.
As data and machine learning are becoming increasingly important in the life sciences, we are especially looking for IT profiles. So, do you know how to code and have an affinity with machine learning (or the motivation to develop it)? Are you eager to dive into large datasets and help us understand life, health, and disease?
Apply for a job at VIB! You'll be part of a multicultural research group, work on breakthrough science, use cutting-edge technologies, and have access to a high-end training program that will help you take charge of your career.
VIB is a unique research institute that combines the expertise of biotechnology groups at all five Flemish universities. We are scientifically independent, provide access to state-of-the-art facilities, and have a stellar track record of translating basic research into start-ups and tangible societal benefits.
We aim to discover and develop disruptive technologies, as well as negotiate access to prototypes. Our business team has decades of experience in establishing partnerships and start-ups in therapeutics, agrotechnology, and diagnostics. Training programs that cater to everyone's chosen career are available too, and our communications team helps researchers to spread the news to the general public, policymakers, and students. We also have a renowned conferences program.

VIB is therefore looking for candidates who are not only strong in their own aptitudes but care deeply about supporting each other's growth. VIB's collaborators are people with different strengths, experiences and backgrounds, who share a passion for science that generates impact in science and in society. Diversity not only includes race and gender identity, but also nationality, age, disability status, sexual orientation, religion and many other parts of one’s identity. All of VIB’s employees’ points of view are key to its success, and inclusion is everyone's responsibility.
