The legal gateway from, to and in the Benelux
International. No-nonsense. Passionate about law. That’s AKD.
AKD is a leading Benelux law firm, with a strong Benelux footprint. The 500+ lawyers, civil-law notaries, tax advisers and business support staff who make up AKD have drive, a team mindset, a no-nonsense mentality, and a real passion for the law. Those are the ties that bind us. With offices in Amsterdam, Breda, Brussels, Eindhoven, Luxembourg and Rotterdam, we feel at home in practically every area of the law, in every corner of the world, wherever our clients need us. Hammering out M&A deals in the Benelux, China and Japan. Advising on administrative law right to the highest levels of government. Working on the largest arbitration case in history. Providing tax advice to a broad spectrum of clients. We do it all.
An open, diverse, safe and inclusive environment
We believe that everyone working at AKD will only get the best out of themselves if they are allowed to be themselves. That is why we are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing an open, diverse, safe and inclusive environment. AKD is a place where people, regardless of race, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status or sexual orientation, can thrive and reach their full potential.
AKD has joined nearly 100 leading companies and 35 other law firms in subscribing to the Equal in Legal Diversity & Inclusion Statement. AKD is also a friend of Stichting FORWARD, whose mission is to promote the acceptance, validation and visibility of LGBTQ+ within the Dutch legal profession. All of our lawyers, tax advisers, civil-law notaries and support staff have received inclusive leadership and unconscious bias training, helping to propagate diversity as part of our daily routine. After all, we believe it is the responsibility of every AKD colleague to contribute to the open, diverse, safe and inclusive working environment we provide.
Our Social Responsibility
AKD believes that Corporate Social Responsibility is an integral part of modern business practice.
We are involved in a number of CSR initiatives. One of them is Make-A-Wish, a not-for-profit organisation that creates life-changing wishes for children with a critical illness. AKD provides Make-A-Wish with pro bono legal services.
AKD also provides pro bono legal services to The Ocean Cleanup, aiding them in their ambition to rid the world of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
The area covered by this accumulation of 80 million tons of plastic waste is about three times the size of France. AKD advises The Ocean Cleanup on the question whether the floating installation can be considered a vessel and which Dutch and international legislation and regulations apply to System 001. AKD also assisted in the drafting of the Covenant with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
We have also partnered with Vereniging Natuurmonumenten, a nature conservation organisation managing sites in the Netherlands with a combined area of over 1000 square km.
We also work together with Pro Bono Connect, an initiative matching NGOs with the country's top lawyers. Our lawyers, tax advisers and civil-law notaries provide the NGOs with free legal advice and assistance
AKD offers internships (both in Summer as well as throughout the year) to third year Bachelor or Master students with an interest of getting a taste of a more practical and tangible side of the law. Students applying for an internship will have one interview without an assessment. Applying can be done at the Job Fair by visiting our stand or by handing in your CV and cover letter afterwards.
Students looking for the perfect place to start their bar traineeship (baliestage) are also encouraged to visit the AKD stand. Our firm boasts a huge amount of legal expertise, as well as a solid back-end structure to allow all of its lawyers to develop themselves. Students can apply for a position as a junior associate in one of the many AKD legal departments by visiting us at the Job Fair and by handing in their profile (CV) and cover letter afterwards. Applicants will go through a three step application proces in which they will have the opportunity to speak to other associates, partners and get a feel for AKD. In this process an assessment of your soft and analytical skills is included.
A selection of applicants will be invited to the (new) AKD Brussels office for an informal reception. There they will meet the lawyers of the Brussels office, a great opportunity for us to get to know you and vice versa.
Good luck!
Growth and development. A never-ending story.
We want our people to grow, to develop themselves. A process that never stops. That is why AKD offers everyone the opportunity to follow quality courses and receive personal assistance through our very own training institute, AKDMY.
External, academic programs also receive the support of AKD. In consultation with your managing partner, external academic programs can be supported based on the relevance and added value for both the associate and the firm.
